Paul's trip around the world: China

Happy Chinese New Year! Last Saturday was probably the most important Chinese holiday. In keeping with this, we are taking a virtual trip to China today.

While many cultivation areas in Europe are still in hibernation, fruit and vegetables are already (or still) being harvested in China - currently mushrooms and vegetable corn, for example. Due to the country's geographical location and overall size, it is possible to harvest here all year round, sometimes even several times a year. This is what makes China such an exciting trading partner. For example, for canned products such as fruit cocktails, asparagus, tomatoes, mushrooms, corn, strawberries, pears or mandarins.

However, our China expert has observed an increasing challenge in recent years: "China-wide demand for its own canned products is continuing to grow and producers in China are therefore delivering less frequently to Europe," he explains. In addition, there are very large fluctuations in freight rates. And climate phenomena such as droughts also play a role in China.
