Paul's trip around the world: Turkey

Today we invite you on a trip to Turkey - at least in your mind: thanks to its geographical location and diverse climate, the conditions for agriculture are good.

Various tree and field crops are grown on almost half of the country's total area. These include cereals, pulses, oilseeds, peppers, chillies and capers. Processed products such as tomato paste and pizza sauce are also important sales products. In the fruit segment, the main products are mandarins, oranges, sweet and sour cherries, figs, apricots, melons and grapes.

As in most other regions around the world, farmers in Turkey are increasingly facing climatic challenges such as heatwaves and dry spells. Added to this is the tense economic situation: due to unbroken inflation and the high key interest rate of currently 50 percent, the country's farmers are facing an increasingly difficult economic situation.t is difficult for companies to calculate costs and prices and to take out loans. As the harvest season for various products is approaching (and with it the costs of wages, energy and materials), it remains to be seen how the situation will develop. In our Food News we regularly report on various product groups from Turkey. Click here to register for free: https://paulmmueller.com/newsletter/
