Higher Truck toll

As early as January 2023, higher toll rates will apply to trucks on German autobahns and federal highways.

After a long tug-of-war within the German government, it is now a done deal: the truck toll will rise in Germany as early as the beginning of next year. One year later, on January 1, 2024, the toll reform itself will follow, which will then include the extension of the truck toll to vehicles over 3.5 tons and a CO2 toll. Until now, the truck toll has applied to vehicles weighing 7.5 tons or more. The toll rate depends on three factors: Number of axles, emission class and permissible total weight of the vehicle combination. By 2027, over 8 billion euros are expected to be collected annually. However, it is also a fact that following increased fuel costs and a shortage of drivers, the transport and logistics industry will have to contend with further burdens from now on.
